Alaska Airlines has announced that they will start using their "Dash 8 Q-400" aircraft on some of the shorter Alaska routes such as Portland and Boise. This also means that Alaska may possibly begin new short routes from KIA using this smaller aircraft. The Dash 8 aircraft were part of Alaska's regional affiliate Horizon, but the Horizon Air brand has been retired and those planes have been repainted with the standard Alaska livery.
The airport is considering building a new regional terminal next to the cargo building, but for now all regional flights, including these new Alaska ("Horizon") flights will continue operating from their normal gate(s).
